SD Host The Back On My Feet Club
On October 20, 2008, the Schuylkill Dragons invited the men of Back on Feet to enjoy a day of paddling and picnicking. Back on My Feet is a non-profit organization that promotes the self-sufficiency of Philadelphia's homeless population by engaging them in running as a means to build confidence, strength and self-esteem. Despite some initial apprehension, the new paddlers enjoyed the teamwork and camaraderie of dragon boating. The two clubs capped off the afternoon with a picnic on the shores of the river. |

Dragon boating, from the team supporter’s perspective
By Paul Reichert, Schuylkill Dragons Supporter
Dragon Boat teams are fairly large groups whose members devote significant time and effort to achieve the strength, timing, and coordination to get the most out of their dragon boats and themselves. It’s hours of practice and out-of-the boat exercise, and the mental preparation that builds to race times. Races are intense competitions, raw bursts of synchronized power, exciting to watch with thrilling victories, photo finishes, and some losses on which to reflect and build. Associated with these dragon boaters are friends and family who support and take delight in these efforts.
